Don?t rip and shrink or copy at the same time, this type of backup will
switch the DVD ROM's later on and of many thousands of times, it also starts up
and shuts down the drives motor over and over, eventually rendering the drive
useless.
Use a program like smartripper, it will spin up the DVD drive to maximum speed
and keep it at a constant transfer rate will copying the DVD to your hard drive,
only starting up the motor once, and keeping the laser on constantly until
finished.
Once you have all the files on your hard drive, you can later choose which once
you want, depending on the size of the original.
In this guide, smartripper is used to copy the contents of the DVD to your hard
drive, then using a program like EB Clone DVD to pick how much of the disk to
keep.
Place your DVD into the drive, and start smartripper

Click the Backup button, select the location to save the files, and click
start
You now have all the files on your hard drive.

Smartripper is better than file transfer, which can fail and has no
"Re Try"
