There are multiple formats for DVD media, each format has advantages
depending on the needs of the person. When purchasing DVD media, ensure that
the DVD writer and the DVD software support the format being used. Also make
sure that the home DVD player supports the format your using.
DVD-R
There are two DVD R categories, authoring and general
use, that have a storage capacity of 4.7 GB per side. DVD-R authoring was
designed to meet the needs of professional content developers and software
producers. A DVD-R disc can only be written to one time.
DVD-RW
DVD-RW with 4.7 GB per side is officially referred to as a re-recordable
format but is commonly called a rewritable. DVD-RW media is a sequential
read/write media. DVD-RW 4.7 GB per side media can be overwritten 1,000
times and have a data storage life of 30 to 50 years.
