When you make a print of one of your photos on an inkjet printer, a lot
is happens inside the printer. As the print head sweeps rapidly across the
paper, hundreds of ink nozzles in the head spray ink droplets to form the
pixels in your colour photo.
Print head
The print head can have 48 or more separate nozzles for each colour of ink.
For example, Epson Stylus Photo has 48 nozzles each for five different
colours: cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, and light magenta. It has
another 48 nozzles for black. Generally, more nozzles increase the printing
speed. Different colour dots are overlaid on the same spot. With a
microscope, you can see dots look green at the sport where yellow and cyan
inks were shot. So you can say that primary colours are mixed in the ink jet
coating layer.
Epson
Printer like the Epson Stylus Photo R300 can also print onto CD's or
DVD's, producing disks that match the quality of those bought in the shop.
This particular printer also has separate ink tanks, so you only need to
replace the ink that runs out, generally though they all run out about the
same time.
If you look at the way a primitive, four-color ink jet works, it’s easier to
understand. Each pixel can have between zero and four dots of colour sprayed
on it. Different combinations make it possible to have at least 10 colours.
Some printers could also use combinations such as cyan and black, or
magenta, yellow, and black to increase the total number of colours to 16
Memory Card
If you also have a digital camera, printers like the R300 come with a
memory card slot, which you can use to print your photos with, without using
a PC, this particular model will print a list of photos from the card in the
forum of small thumbnails, letting you choose which ones to print.
Cartridges
Be careful when buying a printer, some printers sell for less than £25
but the Cartridges cost £30, so its not always best to buy cheap. Take a
look at cartridge prices for the model, see if there are compatible
cartridges by another company, as the manufacturers Cartridges can be 3
times more expensive.
Refill
Most printer cartridges can be refilled using replacement ink, you will
need a kit for the particular model, it will come with blunt needles,
bottles of ink, and possibly a small drill to drill a hole into the
cartridges. This can be a messy job, and its not something the average
person would do.

Paper
There is plenty :)- and the quality is different from
each manufacturer. There is also photo paper which can be a lot more
expensive, there is photo paper at the same size as prints (6" X 4") so
is just right for printing out your photographs. There is also A4 photo
paper, sometimes branded with the printers manufacturers name.
